Vista Grove Preparatory Academy is bringing new opportunities to students in the East Valley. In an area too often hampered by low expectations that lead to low achievement, VGPA is challenging students to achieve and succeed in dynamic and rigorous courses that will prepare them for college – and for life.
At VGPA we realize that students need more than stimulating classes to succeed. To be well-rounded, students need to be able to participate in sports, performing arts, student government, and a myriad of other extracurricular activities that will broaden their experiences and enrich their lives.
School budgets will only stretch so far, and too often the funds are not available for everything that we need to enhance the education of our students – requiring these programs and activities to be financed with fees; fees that not all students can afford.
The Arizona Education Tax Credit
The Arizona State Government has provided a way that you can help make sure that Arizona’s students have all the experiences and opportunities they need to succeed. The tax credit allows a single head of household a tax credit of up to $200, and married couples, filing jointly, up to $400 for contributions to eligible extracurricular activities. On your Arizona State Tax Return you will be given a dollar-for-dollar credit for your donation.
That means that the amount of your contribution will be deducted from the tax you owe – YOU GET EVERY DOLLAR BACK! Those dollars can also go back to your student's for the sports program, special field trips, or other special program they want to join that has a fee associated with it.
And if you itemize on your Federal Return you can deduct it there as well; a return of up to 35% depending on your tax bracket.
This tax credit is available to ALL Arizona taxpayers – whether or not you have children in school. You get all of your money back (or even more) and Vista Grove students get the activities that assist them in developing new talents, interests, leadership skills, friendships, confidence, career choices and activities that help them find themselves.
It's as easy as downloading the attached file, filling it out and sending it in with your contribution.
It's a WIN WIN
On August 21, 2017, the moon will pass between the earth and the sun for the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse since 1918. Millions of Americans in 12 states will be able to watch this solar spectacle that will turn day into night for a couple of minutes. The eclipse will start at 9:13 am and end at 12:00 pm. The maximum peak will be at 10:33 am.
Arizona is among the 12 states that have been declared to be a best place to experience this rare phenomenon. Our students will be in school during this event and our educators will take full advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime happening to make it a tremendous learning experience for our students. Our teachers have planned engaging activities the students. NASA approved safety viewers have been ordered and all teachers will be trained on methods of safe viewing of an eclipse, complete with warnings regarding attempts to watch this event without protecting one’s eyes. We look forward to this extraordinary event and making it a positive learning experience for everyone!
In order to defray the cost of the safety glasses, we ask that you send in $.50 to cover the cost of the viewers. In addition, we need many parent volunteers to ensure the proper use of the viewers and safety of our students. Please let your child’s teacher know if you can help.
