Wellness Policy
We ask that you read through this document carefully, as it clearly states our expectations and policies for students and parents at VGPA.
Local Wellness Policy
Kaizen Education Foundation d.b.a. (Vista Grove Preparatory Academy Middle) is dedicated to providing a healthy eating environment and instilling the importance of physical activity.
Nutritional Requirements:
● The school will participate in the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Food served on campus will meet all Nutritional Standards designated by the USDA.
● All students will receive healthy, well balanced meals at no charge.
● Students will be given adequate time to eat their lunch (20 minutes).
● Foods and beverages sold for fundraisers and served before and after school must comply with the Smart Snack standards established by the USDA.
● Students will have access to free, safe, and fresh drinking water throughout the school day.
● The school will provide skim and 1% milk to students and staff.
● Soda will not be available for sale on school grounds.
Education Requirements:
● The school, not just the classroom, shall support the nutrition education program and be linked to the school meal program.
● The school will provide nutrition education through the use of the school's announcements, newsletters and website.
● All stakeholders will be provided the opportunity to give feedback on wellness goals through our website, e-mail or open house events.
Physical Education & Physical Activity:
● All students receive daily supervised recess.
● Students in all grades will be offered physical activities twice a day with a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
● Recess for students will not be used inappropriately as a punishment or a reward.
● Local Wellness policy goals are considered in planning all school based activities (such as school events, field trips and assemblies during school hours.
Nutrition Guidelines for all Foods on Campus
● Our school will provide a specific and restricted list of food items allowed to be served, distributed and available at class parties or at all times.
● All fundraisers activities will support healthy eating and wellness.
● Our school will not use food as a reward.
● Healthy choices will be promoted with classroom snacks.
